West Coast

Your West Coast New Zealand Cycle Tour starts in the small community of Punakaiki. Home to the spectacular Pancake Rocks and Blowholes located at Dolomite Point. If you stay in Christchurch before the tour commences, you can take the TranzAlpine train from Christchurch to Greymouth. We can pick you up from Greymouth for a transfer to Punakaiki.

From here we head south, pedalling through lush rainforest, past picture-perfect West Coast Glaciers and lakes. There is a rest day at Wanaka with the opportunity for hiking or sightseeing. We cross Haast Pass to sheep country and Wanaka set on beautiful Lake Wanaka, overlooked by Mt Aspiring National Park.

Your tour includes quiet, off-the-beaten-track backroads, glaciers, rainforests, lakes and snowy peaks. “The Lord of the Rings” was filmed here on the West Coast, (or Te Wahi Pounamu to give it its Maori name). It is rightly recognized as a World Heritage Area.  Your West Coast New Zealand Cycle Tour finishes in Queenstown.  Surrounded by mountain peaks (including the famous Remarkables) and set on Lake Wakatipu. Queenstown has much to offer.

We both just want to say what a fantastic time we had whilst away with Haoung and Mr T. They were both superb and they could not have been more helpful and caring. The accommodation was great and as for the wonderful food well where do we start. The lunches were a bit too much at 5 or so courses and then having to do it all again in the evening we were so full. The stops along the way were interesting and were well looked forward to. We did just the right amount of biking each day and enjoyed the hotel pool in the late afternoons.

The itinerary was outstanding, the people divine, and the views: ORGASMIC! My favourite days were the first two to Munna and then to Kumily because of the climbs. I loved the boat cruise, and the last days of flat rides and a stop for a swim in the Arabian Sea! What an experience. The guides were outstanding ... they marked the routes well, guided us with the flag, had a smile at every turn, and provided us with nourishment on the way. On the houseboat we were treated to traditional songs by Siddhu as well as dancing for all. India is a magical place and I loved every minute of it.
